Wine for the Good Times

Sometimes in life, all we really need is a little fine wine and an abundance of smiles and laughs with our best girls (and fellas). Remember that when the day starts to get tough and rough like a motha'.

Killer Sample Sales.

In an e-mail exchange with a co-worker about sample sale happenings this week, we discovered that this city is way too small. After mentioning that Alice + Olivia and Elie Tahari were having sample sales over on Fifth, I realized that I had just returned from both only to find an absurd line forming outside of the Tahari sale (which I was not waiting on because I had already spent 30 minutes in conversation due to a random run in with a friend) and dresses that I didn't feeling like buying because I'm in no position to spend money. Basically, we should have put our two like minds together and knocked these out together.
For some other goodies going on this weekend, take a peek below. This is what I live for.

Alice and Olivia - Over 60% off dresses, boyfriend blazers and tops. 80 W. 40th St., near Sixth Ave. (3/31-4/3)

Pioneers.

The Hackney Brothers of the band, "Death".

I guess it's safe to call us the orginators. Whether it be Jazz, Hip-Hop, Rock & Roll or Soul, we're creators of the best. What can we say?
Came across this fabulous article in the NYT about a Detroit punk rock band back in the 1970's who were "Punk before Punk was Punk". That title is genius.

Link to it right here.

I Love Something Fresh- Esperanza Spalding

You may have caught her at the Stevie Wonder Tribute thrown by the Obamas at the White House or you may have never heard of her at all. 23-year old Esperanza Spalding plays the bass. Out of the ordinary for a young woman of color? I think much. Nevertheless, it's what makes her a force to be wreckoned with. Pairing the bass with vocals, her songs have personality and a unique presence within the world of jazz music today.
One of the first songs I listened to was Ponta De Areia and I can't begin to explain how beautiful it was. But the lyrics to Fall In and Precious are just as wonderful.
This girl is a class A beauty and I strongly recommend her to all.

Miss Bruno: Keep Me Toasty

Whatever the temperature seems to be doing here on the east coast, it's abnormally cold and beyond anything that I'd like to handle in this lifetime.
During a trip to the Brooklyn Navy Yard to pick up my precious car that happened to be towed the other day (due to my inadequacy to read street signs), I found myself quietly dying as I walked through the huge open space of cars. Perhaps I should have worn more layers judging by the 23 degree temperature that read on my damn thermostat? Nothing like the NY Traffic Enforcement department making your life a walking nightmare.
I've always liked the dresses designed by Miss Bruno and have loved their creatively-made "My So-called Scarf" collection just as much. How helpful would one of these scarves been for my situation this morning? Wool and heavy duty cotton are our best friends when it comes to dealing with mornings like today. Depending on the style that mingles best with your needs, drop $60-$110 and your set. Must. buy. now.

The Jacmelian; $90

Jason Wu F/09

Maybe it's the fact that models are SUPPOSED to make clothing look orgasm worthy but whatever it may be, Jason Wu has reeled me back in since the days of seeing the white piece of bedazzled fabric Michelle mistakenly picked out for Inauguration. Wu brought it so beautifully with this collection. Michelle's dress may now possibly be some abstract figment of my imagination.
The colors! The cuts! The prints! Would it really have hurt to make First Lady Michelle an exception and lend her one of these fabulous gowns?

Hands down, my favorite. Do you see the cap sleeves? I don't think you do.

DVF : Fall 2009

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicks off this week and designers every which way are making it happen big time. This weekend, our hands- down favorite, Diane Von Furstenberg premiered her Fall 2009 Collection. Can't say that I'm a huge fan of this particular set of pieces but I can say that Diane has won me over by including a more than broad spectrum of models, leaving out no one. For that alone, I'm hooked. Check out these designs and judge for yourself.

Guess we can say we love it!
